Natural Resource Management
Because the rural poor are so dependent on the environment for their livelihoods, CHF believes in the importance of mainstreaming environmental considerations in all of its projects. Some projects, however, have the improvement of the environment, the management of natural resources or the development of alternative energy sources as their main objective.
To respond to the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, CHF designs and implements environmentally-friendly projects and is careful to avoid potentially negative impacts on the environment. In many cases, our project actually bring positive environmental results by improving agricultural and soil management techniques, using natural pest management methods and promoting local and renewable energy sources, etc.
CHF’s environmental focus builds on the strong technical expertise and extensive experiences of its specialists. Our team is composed of specialists with expertise in:
- Environmental engineering
- Renewable energy
- Water and sanitation
- Waste and watershed management
- Cleaner production
- Environmental impact assessments
- Land rehabilitation and conservation
- Forest management
- Irrigation and drainage
- Agriculture
- Natural resource management
Examples of CHF Natural Resource Management projects:
The Central Region Livelihoods Improvement Project consisted in an environmental review and the development of environmental safeguards for livelihood activities in 55 communities in Vietnam. The project provided training and capacity building of community staff, provincial and district project management staff and line agencies. The project also provided awareness for and advice on environmental management and livelihoods improvements.
The Canada-India Rural Energy Project promoted fuel efficiency and appropriate renewable energy technologies as a complement to biogas technology. Among other things, the project designed and disseminated information on alternative technologies, designed and developed self-financing operations and maintenance schemes, and provided technical and financial management and capacity development support.
