Soaking up development success in rural Pakistan

It was a disaster. Donkeys are important livestock where Marjan lives, and without one, it was going to be impossible for her and her husband and her family to get all of the water they needed.

Transporting that much water by donkey already took hours of her day and there was no way she could carry it all herself. Working with community stakeholders, CHF helped to pipe clean water into Marjan's village. Women and girls of hillside villages in rural Pakistan spend hours fetching clean water from faraway streams. Not only does the project save them the effort of struggling that distance, it also frees up more time. saok

"Now my dream is fulfilled," says Marjan. "Whenever I take water from the tap I pray from the core of my heart for all those who participated to bring water in our houses."

Marjan is now experiencing a life she only dreamed of before. With a clean water supply right in the village, the women have sold their donkeys and used the proceeds to build bathrooms in their homes to further improve hygiene and their health.
