Improving Livelihoods in Mozambique’s Border Communities

Where:

The project will initially target vulnerable men and women in one district of Mozambique’s Manica Province, Sussundenga District. This will be scaled-up in the project’s subsequent three-year phase to include Manica and Mossurize Districts.

Who:

CHF and Kubatsirana. Kubatsirana is a Mozambican AIDS service organization and an affiliate of CHF’s long-time partner in Zimbabwe, Family Aids Caring Trust (FACT).

Funded by:

CHF and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

Purpose:

To break the cycle of dependency on food aid largely created by successive droughts by contributing to efforts to improve the long-term food security of vulnerable or food-insecure households.

Target Group:

Vulnerable men and women, households headed by women, households affected by HIV/AIDS, and internal and external migrants in Sussundenga District. Up to 1,000 beneficiaries (50 per cent women) are expected to benefit directly from the project.

Results:

The project aims to increase resilience among rural men and women in Mozambique, primarily focused on:

  • Improved and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable men and women in Mozambique’s Manica Province
  • Enhanced capacity of Kubatsirana to support sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable men and women in Manica Province.
