Feasibility Study for Craft Markets in Grenada

Where:

Grenada, The Caribbean

Who:

CHF

Funded by:

Caribbean Development Bank

Purpose:

To link Grenada’s craft production with the country’s tourism sector and become a viable business enterprise.

Situation:

Currently, craft producers in Grenada are poorly organized, lack a coherent marketing strategy and miss out on many opportunities at the major tourism sites.

Results:

CHF completed a craft industry profile and analyzed the market demand for craft products. As well, preliminary costs and revenues were determined as part of the feasibility study.

The original concept of a series of craft markets has been expanded into a much stronger heritage tourism component. CHF is assisting the Government of Grenada to develop the potential of the country’s rich heritage tourism, which includes aspects such as a fort restoration project and Amerindian petroglyph sites.

Unfortunately, Hurrican Ivan in September 2004 resulted in the suspension of the project. CHF will work with the Caribbean Development Bank and contacts in Grenada to resume operations as soon as it is feasible to do so.
