A Peacebuilding Approach To Water Conflict

Where:

El Salvador

Who:

FUNDE1, YEK INEME

Funded by:

CHF and (CIDA)

Purpose:

The main purpose of this project is to strengthen the capacity of community leaders, municipalities and relevant NGOs to negotiate and transform conflicts related to water and natural resources in the Eastern region of El Salvador through a peacebuilding approach.

Results:

This project focuses on empowering communities to be aware of and use non-violent approaches when dealing with environmental conflict. Considering El Salvador has a long history of violence, rural communities may feel the need to use confrontational strategies in resolving their conflicts. This project will contribute to increasing the prospects for peace in El Salvador by strengthening the capacity of rural communities to secure their access to water and increase their knowledge on how to protect and manage their water resources.
