What's Right With This Picture

In this lesson, students are introduced to CHF’s unique approach to sustainable development called the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach. Students explore the role of non-governmental organizations in the world and analyze the impact of international development projects using a case study from Zimbabwe. In Part 1, students use their critical-thinking skills to analyze a photograph of a household in a developing country to answer the question “What’s right with this picture?” Students then discuss the concept of sustainable development. In Part 2, students explore the various sectors of international development and non-governmental organizations. In Part 3, students use a CHF media story about families coping with AIDS in Zimbabwe as a case study to analyze the impacts of Sustainable Livelihoods work.

The real game of survivor

Beyond disaster relief

“Something that my classmates and I agreed was interesting was that CHF doesn’t just throw money or supplies at people in need, you also teach them how to become self-sufficient and not only that, but you give them a sense of pride and worth. Every single person on this planet, rich or poor, deserves that….Thank you for reminding all of us of that.”
