International Development in Action

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have far-reaching effects that cut across political boundaries and spread across all components of life including health, food security and income generation. In this activity, students conduct research on international development NGO work by researching a CHF project on the Internet. Students also conduct research on a CHF partner organization. Cooperation with other organizations, especially local organizations in developing countries, plays a critical role in the work of some NGOs. After conducting independent research, students share their findings with the class through a brief presentation in small groups. The activity concludes by debriefing with the class about the interconnectedness of social, environmental, economic and political issues relating to poverty and the importance of cooperating organizations.

The real game of survivor

Beyond disaster relief

“Something that my classmates and I agreed was interesting was that CHF doesn’t just throw money or supplies at people in need, you also teach them how to become self-sufficient and not only that, but you give them a sense of pride and worth. Every single person on this planet, rich or poor, deserves that….Thank you for reminding all of us of that.”
