The Forgotten World Food Crisis
Presentation Overview:
This highly interactive World Food Crisis workshop will focus on the reason behind the rising prices, its impact on the poor and how CHF’s Sustainable Livelihoods approach is helping people to battle the food crisis.
The workshop starts off with an introduction ot the topic of global poverty by playing the "If the World Were a Village" game. Students will also play the UN Millennium Development Goal activity where students, work together in small groups to rank the goals and look at targets and quick facts for each goal. Through this activity, students will better understand the interconnectedness and complexity of development issues.
Following this, students will talk about "What's Right with This Picture?" and learn about the world players in development, including CHF as a non-profit organization. A formal presentation about the World Food Crisis with opportunities for discussion with the Global Educator and your class will occur.
If your class is more than an hour, the Game of Survivor or the Gender Mapping game will be played to get at the heart of the social, economic, political and environmental factors that impact the rural communities and how the sustainable livelihoods approach ensures people reach their aspirations.
At the end of the presentation, students will learn about ways they can get involved through our Gifts That Matter campaign, the Reality Race event and our Show What You Know Media Literacy contest.
